YW: How do you identify and prioritize opportunities for professional growth within your practice area?
ANUPAM: Since my practice centers on technology law (TMT, privacy, etc.), I tackle professional growth like a tech investor, scouting high‑potential disruptors where the law needs innovation. AI boom, for example, is prime real estate for new legal frameworks and expertise.
I monitor the legal world for video‑game‑style level‑ups. New regulations dropping? That’s a boss battle to strategize. Privacy panic over emerging tech? Time to unlock a new skill tree. If it’s complex and intimidating, it’s likely a growth quest, and I relish learning along the way.
Finally, I prioritize based on client impact, relevance to my niche, and what keeps me intellectually stimulated. After all, if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you've always had.
YW: What’s the most significant shift you have observed in the legal industry in recent years, and how have you positioned yourself to respond?
ANUPAM: One of the most significant shifts I’d say is the growing fusion of law and technology. We’re no longer interpreting dusty tomes; we’re navigating digital ecosystems. My inner geek loves this! Learning new technologies and grasping their legal implications is a daily task. I’m constantly honing my skills. Clients rely on me as their legal translator for the digital age, fluent in both legalese and tech jargon. New technologies, evolving regulations and global interconnectedness demand constant adaptation but many ignore this at their peril. Clients now expect lawyers to be strategic partners with deep business and industry insight. Gone are the days of drafting alone now it’s about offering proactive commercially viable solutions. GET S**T DONE is the mantra.
